Still Waters

Finding Peace Beside Still Waters

There’s something about the image of “still waters” that settles the soul. Psalm 23 paints it clearly: “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23:2–3)

For many of us, life feels anything but still. Work deadlines, family responsibilities, trauma memories, and the constant hum of “what’s next” can leave our nervous system on edge. We know we need rest, but it feels almost impossible to slow down.

Yet God is faithful to meet us where we are. He doesn’t wait for us to “get it together.” Instead, He leads us—step by step—toward quiet places where His presence restores us.

When Rest Feels Out of Reach

If you’ve ever tried to rest but found your body buzzing with stress, you’re not alone. Trauma and busyness train us to live in survival mode. Stillness can even feel unsafe at first. That’s why Psalm 23 is such a gift: it reminds us that rest is not something we force—it’s something God gently leads us into.

Instead of pushing ourselves to “be still,” we can open ourselves to His invitation: Come, let me restore you. Come, rest beside still waters.

Creating Sacred Pauses

Sometimes rest begins with the smallest gesture—a slow breath, a whispered prayer, a moment to notice God’s nearness. Rituals help us create these sacred pauses. They remind our body and spirit: it’s safe to rest here.

That’s why I created the Still Waters Ritual—a simple, sensory way to return to God’s peace.

🌙 Ritual for Peace in the Pause

  • Begin by finding a quiet space, even if only for a few minutes.
  • Light or Apply your Still Waters candle or oil, letting the soft fragrance remind you of God’s presence.
  • Repeat aloud or whisper: “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”
  • Notice how your body feels—your breath, your heartbeat, your shoulders.
  • Stay here for a few moments longer than feels comfortable. Let stillness itself be your prayer.
  • 🕊️ Reflection Prompt: Where do I feel God gently leading me into rest today?

Closing Thought

You don’t have to earn rest. God calls you to it because He knows your soul needs it. Whether through scripture, silence, or small rituals, let yourself be led beside still waters.

✨ May this week hold space for you to pause, breathe, and be restored.
